Just to be completely open about it, Marigold McCarthy is an virtual singer that helps me bring my (Mark van Setten) songs to life. I use several virtual artists as I want a voice that I feel best fit the style and content of each particular song.
Marigold McCarthy is the fourth virtual singer for which I have published songs. Marigold McCarthy She has a soft yet impressive voice which best lends itself to more intimate ballads.
Her first single, When Dreams Fell Apart, is now available on all major streaming platforms.
This song is a reflection on my life. For years I worked hard on my PhD while conducting scientific research at a research institute. My goal was to pursue more interesting projects free from the stress of my thesis and the higher pay. However, a few years after completing my PhD I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. A year later I injured my back so badly that I now live with chronic pain. This has significantly impacted my life, affecting my ability to work and travel. The song explores this period and my journey of acceptance. Creating and listening to it has been incredibly therapeutic for me. I’d be delighted if it helped even one other person with their acceptance journey.
